Illinois motor vehicle accidents: Pedestrian killed in collision

On Behalf of | Jun 5, 2017 | Motor Vehicle Accidents

All drivers have moments in which they are lulled into a sense of complacency. Perhaps an Illinois driver who has driven the same route repeatedly may go into a sort of autopilot mode, making the driver slow to respond to changes in conditions, such as drivers who slow to make a turn. Unfortunately, such complacency is often the cause of motor vehicle accidents.

While the events leading up to a recent fatal accident involving pedestrians are unclear, reports indicate that it happened at approximately 9 p.m. on a day in early June. According to reports, a car driven by a 65-year-old woman struck a sports utility vehicle. The car then traveled onto a sidewalk, striking two pedestrians.

One of the pedestrians, a 58-year-old woman, passed away approximately an hour after the accident occurred. The second pedestrian, a 54-year-old man, has since stabilized. The driver of the sports utility vehicle was also injured. The woman driving the car was reportedly uninjured and declined medical attention. She was cited for failing to remain in her lane and failing to reduce speed.

Unfortunately, motor vehicle accidents such as these often leave family members wondering how they will cope with their unexpected loss while injured victims may face a long road to recovery. Funeral expenses, medical bills and loss of wages often make it difficult for victims, which include surviving family members when a fatality occurs, to meet their financial obligations. However, they have the option of filing a civil lawsuit. If negligence can be proved, these Illinois victims could receive a financial award, allowing them to focus on their overall recovery rather than how they will pay their bills.
