2 children suffer personal injury at Illinois trunk-or-treat

On Behalf of | Nov 6, 2017 | Personal Injury

Many streets in Illinois may see relatively few pedestrians during the majority of the year. However, Halloween is a time when pedestrians fill the streets. Because this is an event that is anticipated by many people year round, drivers should be aware that additional caution must be taken on the holiday that brings children in the area out on the streets. Unfortunately, two children were reportedly struck by a car, resulting in personal injury.

The incident happened at approximately 6:45 p.m. on Halloween. Police reports indicate that the two victims, siblings aged 7 and 12, were attempting to cross the street near an intersection at the corner of a park when they were struck by a sedan driven by a young woman. Police claim that the park where the accident occurred was full at the time.

Both children were injured. While the condition of the older victim is unclear, reports indicate that they younger child was listed in critical condition. The driver of the sedan reportedly remained at the scene and is cooperating with police. The mother of the injured victims was on the scene when police arrived. While no citations have been given, police say that could change once the investigation is complete.

Anyone who has been treated at the hospital knows that even relatively minor injuries can result in significant medicals bills. Serious injuries requiring a long-term stay can often devastate a family’s finances. As a result, many in Illinois who have been injured by someone else’s negligence — or, in the case of minors, their family members — often decide to file a personal injury lawsuit. If their claims can be proved, they could receive an award of damages, ensuring that they are able to cope with the medical bills and lost wages that often accompany such an accident.
