Motor vehicle accidents: Illinois man accused of homicide

On Behalf of | Oct 16, 2017 | Motor Vehicle Accidents

Every single person who has driven Illinois road has likely been tempted to exceed the speed limit. While people may let the needle on their speedometer creep over posted limits, doing so, especially when it involves driving excessively fast, can result in motor vehicle accidents that have serious consequences. For example, a woman was recently killed in a crash in which speed is suspected to have played a major role.

The accident happened at approximately 11 a.m. on a day in late September. Reports indicate that a car driven by a 62-year-old man struck a vehicle driven by a 23-year-old woman in the rear. The woman’s car caught fire after the collision.

Unfortunately, rescue workers report that the woman died as a result of injuries suffered in the collision. The male driver is said to have been driving erratically prior to the accident. Police believe that he may have been driving as fast as 135 mph at the time of the collision. He was arrested at the scene and charged with reckless homicide.

While the man faces criminal charges, the family of the deceased young woman must come to terms with her unexpected, preventable death. To help them cope with the financial expenses associated with her loss, her surviving family members have the option of filing a personal injury lawsuit. If they can prove that the man’s negligence caused the woman’s death — claims that would be supported by a criminal conviction — they could receive a financial award to compensate them for funeral costs, lost wages and other financial damages. Many people in Illinois who have lost loved ones in motor vehicle accidents such as this have chosen to seek guidance from an attorney with experience with this kind of case.
