There are hazards that can appear unexpectedly while driving on Illinois roadways. Many of these hazards occur when other drivers fail to respond to a change in road conditions or areas of construction, for examples, potentially causing fatal motor vehicle accidents. State police claim that a man recently died in such a crash.
The incident occurred one afternoon on a day in August. According to reports, three vehicles had either slowed or stopped to accommodate construction on an Illinois interstate. Officials claim that a tractor-trailer failed to slow in time, slamming into the back of a vehicle driven by a 61-year-old man.
The force of the collision pushed the man’s vehicle into a tractor-trailer in front of him, which, in turn, struck another tractor-trailer. Tragically, the man died at the scene of the accident. The driver of the first tractor-trailer has since been charged with failure to reduce speed to avoid a crash. It is unclear if additional charges are expected to be filed in connection to the accident.
Unfortunately, a family is now dealing with the unexpected loss of their loved one as a result of the Illinois crash. They may be unprepared for the financial strain that such a loss can create as a result of lost wages and funeral expenses. Many victims of motor vehicle accidents — including surviving family members in the event of a fatality — choose to seek compensation for these consequences by filing a wrongful death lawsuit. When negligence can be proved, the court often orders the defendant to compensate victims.
