AAA report: Who is the riskiest driver on the road?

On Behalf of | Mar 7, 2017 | Motor Vehicle Accidents

The American Automobile Association (AAA) recently released findings from a report looking into what type of drivers use the riskiest driving practices in the United States.

What did the report find? The report focused on three specific distracted driving practices: speeding, running a red light and texting while driving. Drivers were then asked to admit if they had partaken in any of these practices while driving over the past thirty days.

The data was then broken down into various age groups. Ultimately, researchers found the following:

  • 69.1 percent of drivers ages 75 and above admitted to at least one of the three practices while driving over the last month.
  • 75.2 percent of drivers ranging in age from 40 to 59 admitted distraction.
  • 79.2 of those ranging from 25 to 39 admitted the same.
  • 88.4 of those from 19 to 24 were guilty of one of these practices.

It is clear that the majority of every age group listed above qualifies as having risky driving behaviors. However, the “riskiest” group based on this data is young Millennials, those ranging in age from 19 to 24.

Why is this report important? This report serves as a reminder for those driving to focus on the road. It also may provide some level of comfort to those who are injured by a distracted driver – you are not alone.

As illustrated by the data above, far too many drivers are choosing to drive while distracted. This risky driving practice results in far too many avoidable accidents.

If you are the victim of one of these accidents, compensation may be available. Contact an experienced car accident lawyer to discuss how you may be eligible for funds to help cover the costs associated with the accident.
