Most people in Illinois and across the country recognize the importance of tractor-trailers. They are able to move goods across the country relatively quickly and, typically, are driven by well-trained professionals; unfortunately, motor vehicle accidents involving tractor-trailers can have devastating consequences, making it necessary for both drivers of commercial vehicles and those who may encounter them to exercise caution. For example, two men were recently killed in such a crash in Illinois.
The incident happened one evening in late October. According to reports, a car containing three men was traveling in the same direction as a tractor-trailer driven by a 63-year-old man. Unfortunately, the tractor-trailer driver reportedly attempted a left turn at the same time the driver of the sedan attempted to pass it.
Reports indicate that the two vehicles collided. The driver of the car was transported to the hospital where he was treated and, presumably, released in the days following the crash. However, two passengers in the car, a 64-year-old man and a 59-year-old man, died as a result of injuries suffered in the collision.
The families of the two deceased men are likely still working to come to terms with news of their loved one's death. As they make funeral arrangements, they may be facing an uncomfortable financial situation as a result of their losses. Many victims of motor vehicle accidents in Illinois often struggle as a result of funeral expenses and lost wages. To help cope with these costs, surviving family members often choose to file a wrongful death lawsuit against the party or parties believed responsible. A successfully presented case could result in an award of damages that will help these families maintain stable finances.
