Tractor-trailers are vital to the economy of the United States. Because of the large number of them that utilize the country's roadways, users of these same roadways are fortunate that most drivers are well-trained professionals who are committed to safety. When motor vehicle accidents involving tractor-trailers do occur, however, they can result in serious injuries due to their large size. Unfortunately, a driver in Illinois has recently been killed in an accident involving a tractor-trailer.
The incident is said to have occurred during the early morning hours of day in July. According to reports, a tractor-trailer struck a car; reports indicate that the cause of the contact is unknown. Nevertheless, the tractor-trailer overturned, and the car caught on fire.
Witnesses claim that the driver was trapped in the car and passed away. Two other occupants were transported to the hospital but are expected to survive, while the driver of the tractor-trailer suffered minor injuries. Lanes were closed for several hours as a result of the collision.
While officials are likely still working to determine the exact cause of the crash, the family of the deceased victim are left to come to terms with the news of the unexpected death of their loved one. If the accident was caused by negligence on the part of the tractor-trailer driver, the family may choose to file a wrongful death lawsuit as many other victims of motor vehicle accidents in Illinois have chosen to do. While such an action will do little to alleviate their grief, a successfully presented case can ensure that they are able to meet the financial complications created by the crash.
