In society, members are expected to treat another in a certain way. While some of these expectations are general social constraints, others are legal requirements. For example, those who are involved in motor vehicle accidents are legally required to render aid if another person is injured. Failure to do so could result in criminal charges. Unfortunately, police have accused an Illinois man of failing to do so after a recent crash involving a pedestrian.
According to reports, the incident happened during the early morning hours of a day in June. Police believe that a car driven by a 22-year-old male struck a 48-year-old male pedestrian standing near the road. The victim was transported to the hospital by helicopter where he is listed in stable condition.
The driver allegedly involved in the accident reportedly fled the scene. However, police claim they were able to locate him soon after. He was charged with failure to report an injury accident and leaving the scene of an injury accident. The road was closed several hours while police investigated the incident.
Unfortunately, motor vehicle accidents can result in significant, long-term physical and financial harm. Required medical treatment is often lengthy and expensive. To compound problems, many victims of motor vehicle accidents in Illinois experience lost wages and may never be able to return to work in the same capacity. As a result, some turn to the civil court system for help. A successfully presented case can result in an award of damages, allowing a victim to recover with less financial stress.
