Illinois motor vehicle accidents: 3 killed in interstate accident

On Behalf of | Jul 3, 2017 | Motor Vehicle Accidents

There are many hazards on the roadway. Even when weather conditions are favorable and there is relatively little traffic, drivers who take their attention from the road for even a split second can easily cause motor vehicle accidents with devastating consequences. Unfortunately, Illinois State Police are currently investigating a recent collision that resulted in the death of three people, including an infant.

The accident occurred during the early morning hours of a day in June. According to reports, a 25-year-old male was driving a sports utility vehicle in the northbound lanes of Interstate 57. Unfortunately, police say that the SUV crossed the median, striking a tractor-trailer head on.

Three passengers, a 26-year-old, 24-year-old and 3-month-old, were pronounced dead at the scene. The driver was transported to the hospital, and he suffers from injuries that have been described as life-threatening. Portions of the interstate were closed for approximately seven hours as officials investigated the accident and went through the cleanup process. The accident remains under investigation.

Unfortunately, when many people in Illinois face an unexpected tragedy, such as the loss of loved ones in motor vehicle accidents, they experience a financial crisis in addition to their grief. To help cope with the financial fallout of such a loss, some choose to file a wrongful death lawsuit. If negligence can be proved, surviving family members could receive a financial award that will help them with the burdens created by lost wages and funeral expenses, allowing them to focus on their recovery rather than how they will meet their financial obligations.
