The majority of drivers on Illinois interstates are safe, striving to remain vigilant at all times. Unfortunately, drivers who take their attention from the road for even a brief moment can cause motor vehicle accidents with horrific consequences. For example, a recent crash resulted in the death of one person while two others suffered injuries.
The incident happened just before noon on a day in late April. According to reports, a 62-year-old driver lost control of her vehicle, causing it to strike a vehicle driven by a 59-year-old man. The initial collision resulted in a chain-reaction event that ultimately involved a total of six vehicles.
Unfortunately, a 62-year-old man suffered fatal injuries in the collision and passed away after being transported to the hospital. A 60-year-old woman is listed in critical condition, while a 32-year-old woman suffered minor injuries. It is unclear if criminal charges are expected to be filed as a result of the collision.
What some drivers may view as a relatively innocuous action — such as changing the radio station or reaching for a dropped item — can actually cause an accident with serious, even fatal, consequences. Unfortunately, one Illinois family is left coping with the consequences of this accident, which can include struggling financially as a result of medical expenses and funeral costs. Many victims of motor vehicle accidents — including surviving family members — often utilize the civil court system to help them seek compensation for damages. If their case is successfully presented, they could receive a monetary award that would allow them to focus on their overall recovery.
