Illinois motor vehicle accidents: Charges filed in fatal crash

On Behalf of | May 29, 2017 | Motor Vehicle Accidents

The majority of drivers in Illinois take measures to prevent an accident. Unfortunately, they often become involved in motor vehicle accidents due to the actions of others with whom they may encounter. In fact, a young man in Illinois now faces criminal charges as a result of a fatal car crash that he allegedly caused.

The incident happened just before midnight on a night in May. According to police, a sedan with five passengers was headed south on an Illinois roadway. Unfortunately, reports indicate that another vehicle failed to yield the right of way by attempting a left turn that resulted in a collision. The driver of the second vehicle is accused of failing to remain at the scene.

Witnesses of the accident claim they attempted to help the people in the first vehicle, which reportedly flipped as a result of the force of impact. One witness says that they were unable to account for the fifth person that victims insisted was in the vehicle until a police officer arrived with the light. It was at that time that they discovered they body of a deceased victim, a 27-year-old man who died as a result of blunt force trauma. The other four occupants were transported to the hospital.

Illinois police have recently made an arrest in the case, charging a 19-year-old male with a felony related to leaving the scene of an accident. Now a family is left grieving the unexpected life of a young man who reportedly had a great deal going for him at the time, while the surviving victims are left recovering from their injuries. To help cope with the costs associated with motor vehicle accidents — including lost wages, funeral expenses and medical costs — victims of negligence have the option of filing a personal injury lawsuit. Such action can help ensure that responsible parties are held accountable for their actions while also helping victims, including the surviving families of deceased victims, cope with the financial fallout.
